Everybody should have a Will as it is one of life's vital provisions - and you can get one free from Labour Legal Services!
Making a Will really is vitally important. A lot of people don't have a Will as they think that their property, money and assets automatically pass to a spouse, partner or next of kin when they are gone - but this isn't always the case.
In fact, if you haven't got a Will, it's the law and not you that makes important decisions, like who inherits your estate or takes care of children under 18 - with results you might not like.
Furthermore, by making Property Trust Wills, spouses/partners who jointly own a home can protect at least one half of the value of their home from care fees in the event that long term care becomes necessary later on in life. Property Trust Wills can also be used to protect your children's inheritance from the effects of remarriage.
Discretionary Trust Wills can also be prepared to protect assets or the interests of beneficiaries themselves (i.e. if one of your children has learning difficulties or is having matrimonial or financial problems). Discretionary Trust Wills can also be appropriate where there are business interests, to maximise the availability of inheritance tax relief without compromising your long term aims for the family.
